The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is holding its 22nd Conference of the Parties (COP 22) from November 7-18 in Marrakech, Morocco. Negotiators from nearly 200 countries are convening to advance the implementation of the Paris Agreement on climate change that was struck at COP21 in December 2015. COP 22 presents a crucial opportunity to advance implementation of the Agreement, moving us further towards a zero-carbon, climate resilient world with a growing global economy.
WRI India Sustainable Cities presents Unlock Bengaluru, a dialogue on sustainable development in the city. We will share learnings from our engagement in Bengaluru and other cities across the country and seek feedback on ideas to address equity, avoid unsustainable lock-ins and initiate transformative change.
Over the last several years, WRI India Sustainable Cities has been working in Bengaluru with several key stakeholders from government departments, academic institutions, civil society, and independent experts, assisting in making informed decisions on land-use and infrastructure, including transport and energy, that typically have a 40-100 year lock-in effect. WRI India aims to use technical guidance, cutting-edge research, and on-ground partnerships to design solutions that enable sustainable city growth.
